The other day I saw a video clip that a friend had posted on facebook. It was a short 4 minutes video but it was a good eye opening video. It started by showing a guy who was having a bad day. He almost hit a kid as he was backing out of his driveway, the kid is out in the street everyday. Then someone cut him off in traffic and he almost had a wreck. He got stuck at the red light. Then he went to the coffee shop and had to wait in line 4.2 minutes to get his coffee. He was frustrated.
Then he sat down at the table and a man came over and handed him glasses. He looked at the man and then put the glasses on. When he put the glasses on he saw the inside thoughts of the people. For instance some had notes that said "afraid to go home because of fear of husband" "discontent in his life" "wants a hug" "grieving over the loss of a friend" "unhappy in her marriage" "simply wants someone to ask how are you and listen to the response" "wants someone to care" and other thoughts like that.
When the man arrived home that afternoon, he stopped and talked to the kid who is always out in the street. He simply took time to talk to the kid and see how he is doing.
It was a good reminder that we don't know what is going on in the lives of people we encounter.
