Soccer and beans are a religion here...

Sounds like a strange combination doesn't it?  Soccer and beans??

A Guatemalan commented to me that "futbol y frijoles" are a religion here.  It means that soccer and beans are a religion here in Guatemala.  I think it's a true statement.  It was interesting to hear him say that.  The Guatemalans love their soccer and they love to eat their beans. You can have all kinds of beans.

Life stops when a soccer game is going on.  The other day I was out and I saw that all the restaurants with TV's were full.  I could tell a soccer game was on. I arrived at the gym and all the TV's were on the soccer game. Of course I got interested in the game as well and enjoyed watching it.

Kitty's visit from the Veterinarian

Kitty’s visit from the Vet
The day started so nicely for Kitty. She had found a good sleeping spot under the covers of the guest bed. I think I might have to get another bed for guests to actually be able to sleep on...haha. Kitty was in happy cat land.

Then about 1215 pm that all changed when the veterinarian arrived. He and I went to the guest room. He said the cat is sleeping under the covers? I said yes she loves to do that. We uncovered her. The vet got the needles ready. I tried holding her but she is a fighter. I went and got a towel and it was a little better. It wasn’t too bad holding her down while he gave her the shots. But there was one time I was holding her down and I looked over and the vet was reading
a text message which he had just received. I wanted to say listen I have her, give her the shot! Then he did. We went downstairs and left Kitty under the bed. A few minutes later I looked at Kitty was on the landing trying to see what was going on.

The Vet mentioned deworming medicine. He was going to leave a syringe of it for me to put in her mouth later. But we were able to give her the one dose of it today. In 3 weeks I’ll have to give her the second dose. I think he was surprised at how much she fought on that one.

It was so worth it though to have him come to me.
I would have loved to have gotten a picture of when we were giving Kitty the shot but of course that wasn’t possible.

Kitty ignored me for a while afterwards. The middle picture was her a little while ago looking out the window. The bottom picture was her when she started yawning when i took the picture.

When the Vet and I were sitting at my table. He saw the book, The Purpose Driven Life. He asked about it and i told him about it. I said you can borrow that one if you would like. He said yes I would. So he took the book and is supposed to start reading it. Then we’ll get together for lunch one day and talk about the book.

Today is Mother’s Day in Guatemala. Lucilla (a Guatemalan friend) asked if I was going to do anything special. I said no I don’t have any plans and Kitty doesn’t have a present for me. Lucilla said Kitty didn’t go shopping and buy you anything?? haha

Kitty has disappeared now. I think she is hiding out in the chair under the table. I’m sure she says that is enough for today!

Fine for using bathroom

This was a sign on one of the walls....it's mainly a message for men.  It says that you are prohibited from using the bathroom on the wall of this building.  If you are caught you will have to pay a fine..

Animal photos

Carol and Ted E enjoying swinging.

A good program in Guatemala, adopt a cat or dog today.

Kitty thought she needed to steal my side of the bed after I had it warmed up for her!

 Don't I look sweet??

Kitty keeps finding new places to sleep...

Please play with me!

Holy Week in Antigua

The rugs made from sawdust for the processionals are incredible.  The rugs are made, then they are blessed before the processional goes over them.

Take your pick...

Take your pick of items for sale on the streets!  Of course the cute little girl in the orange is not for sale, she is just checking out all her options!

Highlights of Kim's visit

Kim, my sister, came and visited during HolyWeek.  We had a nice time and were able to do alot.  WE enjoyed meeting Kim's Compassion International family, going to Antigua for the Holy Week processionals, going to the lake, exploring new areas and many other things.

Cotton Candy head

I had to laugh at this picture where it looks like the cotton candy is coming out of Kim's head!

Banana Cream Pie

What a nice treat it was to find banana cream pie!  It tasted very good and was made with a homemade crust.  The little girl was excited to stand on the bench so she would be almost as tall as her mom and me.

Need a bathroom??

This might seem like a strange picture to some of you...but I couldn't resist taking a photo of this line up of Porta Potties.  I took the picture during Holy Week in Antigua.  And yes I was very glad to see them for this bathroom option!

Fireman's parade

During my trip last month to Panajchel, I got to see a Fireman's parade.  I couldn't imagine walking in the high heels that the young ladies were wearing.  It was neat to see.  There were quite a few spectators along the parade route.

Snapshots of the Guatemalans

These are just some different photos I have taken of the beautiful people of Guatemala.
