The Kite Festival is celebrated on November 1, All Saints Day. It is based on the Mayan belief that if you attach a note to the kite, fly it over the cemetery, then your dead ancestors/friends can read the notes. If you attach food and the food is returned to you then you can eat the food. It means that the ancestors didn't take the food. The kites range from small to very large. It was a cool day, so I had on layers of clothing and the sweatshirt felt good. |
A friend of mine lives in El Salvador. She talks alot about pupasas so I decided to try some authentic handmade ones and they were good. |
One of the kites made by the military guys. |
It is a popular event. In the background is a blowup Tigo character. Tigo is one of the main cellphone providers in Guatemala. |
