Need a UNC hat?  Lots of good choices with the street vendor.

Radishes for sale.

Horse in the street

I had to give 3 pieces of chocolate for this photo but it was worth it.

Grilled sausages, beef and chicken for sale.

Preparing corn to make roasted corn, a favorite Guatemalan treat.

Kite festival

The Kite Festival is celebrated on November 1, All Saints Day.  It is based on the Mayan belief that if you attach a note to the kite, fly it over the cemetery, then your dead ancestors/friends can read the notes.  If you attach food and the food is returned to you then you can eat the food.  It means that the ancestors didn't take the food.  The kites range from small to very large.  It was a cool day, so I had on layers of clothing and the sweatshirt felt good.

A friend of mine lives in El Salvador.  She talks alot about pupasas so I decided to try some authentic handmade ones and they were good.

One of the kites made by the military guys.

It is a popular event.  In the background is a blowup Tigo character.  Tigo is one of the main cellphone providers in Guatemala.

Tigo man

There was alot of wind, some kites flew better than others.

TV interview

I wasn't on the TV interview, I just enjoyed visiting with her and she let me sit on the steps by her booth while I waited on friends.

This street vendor was thrilled to be interviewed by the TV reporter.  She did have some pretty Guatemalan items.

Cat in the sink

Kitty loves to drink water out of the bathroom sink.  However this time she decided to just take a break and sit in the sink.  I think she is really thinking about something serious based on the serious look on her face.

Scenes from Guatemala

Pharmacy Carol

It's always neat to see a pharmacy or store or something named after you.

Trip to zoo

One day there was a break in the rains.  It was the perfect time to visit the Guatemala City Zoo.  It is a really nice zoo.  I especially enjoyed riding the turtle!  haha
